Youth Orchestra

Covid-19 Update (January 28th, 2021)  “Thank you to everyone who has supported our performances at Jazz Standard up to the last week before quarantine! We continue to mentor young musicians using an online forum as we await the return of live performances. We will share our exciting news as soon as we have a confirmed start up date. Meanwhile, you can get a glimpse of what we are working on, most sundays, by checking in to the Jazz Generation Facebook page. We go love at 12 noon EST. We hope to see all our friends and fans as soon as life gets back …, Many thanks, David O’R”

The Jazz Standard Youth Orchestra is a performance driven program that gives talented and dedicated young jazz musicians the opportunity to perform regularly in one of New York City’s leading jazz clubs often with guest artist’s from the New York scene. The visiting guests give a workshop to the band members in addition to providing the experience of playing with the top musicians on the scene. A typical Sunday commences with rehearsal/workshops at 11am until the club seats the audience. The band members break for lunch followed by a performance from 2-3pm. Due to the growing need for music education programs and the word spreading we have been forced to add a Saturday program at Church Street School of Music in Tribeca. This part of the program has a unique twist — the ensemble at Church Street is run by one of the youth orchestra members and culminates in a performance on a selected Sunday at Jazz Standard.
