Thank you for your interest in performing with the Jazz Standard Youth Orchestra as part our Jazz For Kids program. It’s audition time and we look forward to meeting new friends and catching up with current members and hearing about their progress. We hope to welcome back alumni for special events along with new members. All returning members are required to attend at least one audition.
REPERTOIRE:
Have at least two selections ready that best showcase your present level and be prepared to be asked to play with fellow members auditioning – it makes our auditions a lot of fun while we get to hear you. We will need guide you in making these selections as we are counting on you to choose something YOU are most comfortable playing.
WHEN AND WHERE:
2018 Auditions are confirmed to take place at Church Street School Of Music and Art in Tribeca on September 30th, 11am (new members) followed also by Jazz Standard Oct 7th, 11am – this one by invitation and appointment only! (mainly for returning members). Please email jazzinspires@yahoo.com marked for attention of Emily Elyshevitz and be sure to tell us the applicants, name, instrument(s), age and school. Additionally please cc david@davidorourke.com.
Please also indicate your preferred date for the audition if you do indeed have a preference.
Please note, there is no curriculum for the audition and please understand we may not be able to answer all your emailed questions as we get close to audition time although we will be happy to answer as many as we can at auditions. In addition to prepared pieces we like to get musicians who are auditioning, to form an impromptu band (we pick who plays with whom) and this is one of the fun components of our auditions.
